Chapels:

The chapels are the heart and soul of our spiritual life, providing sacred spaces for reflection, prayer, and community. Each chapel is unique in its design, contributing to the rich tapestry of our Jesuit tradition. The Theology Chapel, also known as Theos Chapel, is the oldest chapel at DNC. It also is a haven for deep contemplation and scholastics studying theology, where the serene atmosphere invites profound spiritual exploration. With a mosaic of Jesus sitting under a peepal tree and Mother Mary clad a blue saree, standing on a Lotus, the Philosophy Chapel, shortly called as Philos Chapel, is an embodiment inculturation.  A tranquil ambiance, fosters thoughtful reflection, encouraging the scholastics pursuing their philosophical studies to seek wisdom, understanding, and engage in philosophical discourse. The Holy Spirit Chapel, apt to its name is a vibrant space of prayer and worship. Our Infirmary Chapel offers a sanctuary of peace and comfort for those in need of healing and solace, providing a place of quiet prayer and support. Lastly, the Holy Family Chapel embodies the warmth and unity of family for the individuals who come to attend courses at the Centre for Ignatian Spirituality and Research, serving as a reminder of our shared journey in faith and community. Each chapel at DNC is a testament to our commitment to nurturing the spiritual well-being of our students, faculty, and visitors. These sacred spaces are more than just places of worship; they are integral to the spiritual and intellectual growth that defines our college, helping us connect with our faith and with each other in meaningful ways.

Study Group:

Monday evenings are study group evenings. This study groups are a cherished tradition that significantly enriches our academic and personal growth. We have nine study groups—six dedicated to philosophy and three to theology—designed to extend learning beyond the confines of the classroom. These gatherings are guided by our exceptional and approachable staff members, who excel in fostering engaging and thought-provoking discussions. Their expertise and willingness to connect with us make the study groups a highlight of our week. The primary purpose of these study groups is to deepen our understanding and encourage a more profound engagement with the material, transcending the typical educational experience.

Through these sessions, we transform from mere students into dedicated learners, gaining a richer, more nuanced understanding of our subjects. The study groups nurture our creativity and novelty, inspiring us to think critically and explore new ideas. This collaborative and supportive environment not only enhances our intellectual depth but also fosters a sense of community and shared purpose. The study groups at DNC are more than just academic exercises; they are vital to our holistic development, helping us grow into thoughtful, innovative, and well-rounded individuals.

Playgrounds:

At 4:15pm every day, in our games court, you can witness a Lebron James, a Kobe Bryant, a Ronaldo, a Bhaichung Bhutia, a Mbappe, or a Dhanjay Pillai in making.

Our playgrounds are cherished spaces that foster physical fitness, camaraderie, and relaxation. We have three basketball courts, each with its own unique identity: the Theology Basketball Court, the Philosophy Basketball Court, and one currently under construction, promising to add even more vibrancy to our campus life. These courts are always buzzing with activity, whether it’s friendly matches, intense practice sessions, or casual shootarounds after a long day of classes.

Our versatile football ground also doubles as a hockey field, providing a dynamic space for sports enthusiasts to hone their skills and enjoy spirited games. This ground is a hub of energy, where scholastics come together for matches that often draw enthusiastic spectators, creating a lively and supportive atmosphere.

In addition to these, we have three dedicated areas for badminton: one indoor court and two outdoor courts. The indoor court is perfect for those who prefer playing in a controlled environment, away from the elements, while the outdoor courts offer a refreshing experience under the open sky surrounded by trees. These spaces are always in use, with scholastics and faculty engaging in friendly competitions or practicing to improve their game.

The playgrounds at DNC are more than just place for games. They are places where friendships are forged, teamwork is cultivated, and a healthy balance between academic and physical pursuits is maintained. They are integral to our campus life, providing a much-needed respite from academic rigors and contributing to the holistic development of our students.

At DNC, we believe in nurturing the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—and our gym is a testament to that commitment, promoting a healthy, balanced lifestyle for all. Our gym is more than just a place to work out—it’s a vibrant hub for physical well-being and community bonding. Nestled within our campus, the gym is equipped with free weights, and a variety of exercise equipment that cater to all fitness levels. After a long day of academic rigors, the gym provides a perfect outlet to unwind and recharge. It’s heartening to see scholastics and priests working out together, creating a sense of community and mutual support.

Ministry is an integral part of Jesuit life, and at DNC, it is embraced with deep passion and commitment by our scholastics. Each Jesuit prepares rigorously for this calling, viewing it as a personal vocation from the Divine to serve others. At DNC, there is a wide array of ministries through which our scholastics dedicate their time and energy, reflecting their devotion to service. They engage in various social work centres, parishes, hospices, community-building initiatives, and teaching roles in orphanages and slums.

The scholastics serve at social work centres such as Chethana Mahila Vikas, Sandhya Home, SADDAC, Vadu, Amalwadi, Snehasadan, and MMS, where they assist in empowering marginalized communities and providing essential services. They are also active in several parishes, including St. Anne’s Church in Sholapur Bazar, Mother Teresa Church, Christ the King Parish, City Church, St. Joseph’s Church in Ghorpuri, Resurrection Church in Kalas, Kune Mission, and St. Patrick’s Church, contributing to the spiritual and communal life of these congregations.

In the realm of community building, our scholastics are involved with the Santhal Ministry, CONER (Catholics of North East Region), and CCA (Chotanagpur Catholic Association), working to strengthen communal bonds and support diverse cultural groups. Additionally, they provide Orientations at various schools and take tuitions at HOPE Centre and Kalyani Nagar slum, offering educational support to underprivileged children.

The commitment to ministry at DNC transforms our scholastics into compassionate leaders and dedicated servants of the community. Their involvement in these diverse ministries not only enriches their own spiritual journeys but also brings hope and support to those they serve, embodying the Jesuit ethos of being “men for others.”
