TRIBAL MINISTRY
Ministry Place: CONER, PUNE
The Catholics of North Eastern Region (CONER) in Pune was officially established in 1998. CONER is a dynamic and inclusive Northeast group that aimed to bring all the Catholics who hail from the hills and valleys of the North-eastern states of India, staying in and around Pune as one family in Christ Jesus. The community strives to create a sense of belonging and unity, fostering a family-like atmosphere cantered on faith in Christ Jesus. The Executive members are lay people. Two co-ordinators from DNC and Holy Cross are appointed. At present, Fr Gideon Warisa SJ is the main Animator of the group. During his absence, Fr Parciush Marak SJ takes the lead.
While its primary focus is on Catholics, CONER extends a warm welcome to all seekers of Christ, encouraging individuals from diverse backgrounds to join the spiritual journey and find solace and guidance in the community. In fact, this time we have more students belonging to different denominations joining our service which is truly overwhelming and encouraging. Holy Eucharistic Celebration – a cornerstone of the community’s activities, is celebrated on the first and third Sundays of every month at 10:30 a.m. These Eucharistic celebrations are currently held at De Nobili College, Ramwadi, Pune, offering an opportunity for members to connect, worship, and nurture their spiritual growth. In the other two Sundays (2nd and the 4th Sunday – Brothers usually go for house visit and sometimes conduct meetings along with the executive members for the various upcoming events.)
In addition to regular Masses, CONER organizes various events and initiatives aimed at fostering fellowship, spiritual enrichment, and cultural exchange. These activities not only strengthen the bonds within the community but also serve as a platform to preserve and celebrate the rich heritage of the North-eastern states. Through its commitment to inclusivity, spirituality, and cultural identity, CONER continues to serve as a beacon of faith and unity for its members in Pune and beyond.

Ministry Place: Santhal – Reaching Migrants with Care
The Santhal Ministry is rendering its care across multiple locations in Pune, including Phulgaon, Talegaon, Pimpri, Lohegaon, Kharadi, Kalyan, Khadki, and Pune Railway Station. The group consists of a team of DNC including Manoj, Raymond, Babulal, Bimal, Daniel, Sebastian, Vinod, and Papal seminarians, The ministry focuses on the social and spiritual upliftment of Santhal migrants.
This ministry involves visiting families, celebrating Mass in various locations, and preparing for community feasts and memorials. It also includes meeting new migrants at the Pune Railway Station, offering initial support, and staying connected for further assistance.
The significance of this ministry lies in its impact on both the team and the Santhal migrants. By providing spiritual guidance, fostering community, and addressing practical needs, the ministry brings hope and connection to those far from home. For the team, it is a source of personal growth, a chance to serve their own community, and an opportunity to prepare for future ministries.
Despite challenges like scattered locations, limited coordination, and a shortage of Santhali-speaking priests, the ministry remains a powerful expression of teamwork and compassion. With better planning, communication, and engagement, it aspires to strengthen its impact and build a more connected community.
